Burnham-Brandeis Updated to

Source code now supports newer Linux distributions such as Ubuntu 8.04.

Brandeis LogoAn update to the Burnham-Brandeis Helical Package has been posted in the Downloads section.  This update addresses an issue where the software wouldn't compile on Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) and possibly other newer distributions as well. Requirements for building the software haven't changed, although you will need gcc 3.4 as well as gcc 4.  If your gcc 3.4 executable is not named "gcc-3.4" you can edit bbhp- and define CC to whataver your compiler is called (gcc34 is a common one).  Newly-compiled binaries for Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) Linux on i386 have also been posted.

UPDATE: All binary distributions in the Downloads section have now been rebuilt using version

More notable however, is the replacement of the bessel handling library with a much improved version, courtesy of Donald Olbris and his understanding of The ACM Bessel Functions. Dr. Olbris has wrapped these routines neatly with a small library to make it trivial to incorporate into the Burnham-Brandeis code.

These bessel function improvements are best shown in picture form:
